High Resolution Maps of Australia on Google Maps

Google launched Australian Maps, a special map service designed for Australia, and decided to capture some high resolution photographs with the city right on the Australia Day, January 26. Because the search giant made a public announcement with its intentions, numerous Australia residents decided to celebrate the event by designing multiple banners to appear on the Google Maps service.
Although the company confirmed the plans, Google didn't show up because Australia's authorities prohibited the search giant to fly at the 600 meters altitude for taking photographs.

Although it was quite an unpleasant situation for the well known Internet giant, it managed to capture several high resolution images with Sydney. All the photos were included in Google Maps today, offering some impressive panoramas for all the viewers. As you can see, the company tried to improve the quality of the images by taking photos from multiple angles and it really managed to draw some impressive 3D view for certain buildings.

Since the inclusion of the high resolution images in Google Maps, the company didn't made any official announcement but I guess all the photos are also available in the downloadable version of the maps, Google Earth. If you want to admire the incredible imagery recently captured by Google, you can click on this link and view the Sydney photos.

4 Processors + 128GB DDR2 RAM :: New System unveiled

How to Enable Clear Type in Windows?

Microsoft states, “With Windows XP, ClearType delivers improved font display resolution over traditional anti-aliasing. It improves readability on color LCD monitors with a digital interface, such as those in laptops and high-quality flat desktop displays. Readability on CRT screens can also be somewhat improved.”
To enable Clear Type:

  1. Right click on a blank area of the Desktop and choose Properties
  2. Click on the Appearance Tab, click Effects and check the box: "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts"
  3. In the drop down box select "Clear Type"
Microsoft offers a site to enable Clear Type and then fine tunes the settings via a graphical interface that allows selection of a visual effect best suited to your individual system.

How to Force IE to Start in Full-Screen Mode?

The default behavior for Internet Explorer is to open at the same size it was at the last time it was closed. While the default does apply in many cases it's not always consistent. Try the following workaround.

  1. Open a single Internet Explorer window to the smaller size
  2. Drag the corners of the window until it completely fills the screen. Do not use the maximize button to enlarge the window
  3. Hold down the Ctrl key, keep it depressed, and using the mouse click File and then Close on the menu bar. Do not use the "X" in the upper right corner to close the window
  4. Internet Explorer should now open in a full window
If it still opens to a smaller size repeat the above instructions, substituting the "Shift" key for the "Ctrl" key.

How to Reduce Graphics Sizes in Outlook

To send relatively small *.jpg files via e-mail, or to reduce the file size to save to disc:

  1. Open Explorer (Start > Run > type explorer > OK)
  2. Right click on an image or collection of images and select Send To > Mail Recipient, then select "Make all my pictures smaller"
Creates nice little jpg's around 50kb, irrespective of original file size.

How to Eliminate Worry

Everyone gets the same amount of time every day. We get all there is... 24 hours... fourteen hundred and forty minutes. So, with time being such a precious commodity, why is it that so many of us spend our days worrying? Worry has almost become a national pastime for most! I suppose if we had a contract to live for a lifetime, it wouldn't be such a big deal, but we don't. We just have now!

Some of you may be reading this and thinking, "Yeah, he probably doesn't have anything to worry about." But, that's not true. I have plenty to worry about, I just choose not to and I'd like to suggest that you follow suit and resolve right now, as you read this article, that you are not going to invest even one of those fourteen hundred and forty minutes worrying... about anything.

Clearly understand, there isn't any situation that isn't made worse by worry. Worry never solves anything. Worry never prevents anything. Worry never heals anything. Worry serves only one purpose... it makes matters worse. How? Well, quite simply, when you're focused on worrying about something, you'll never be able to focus on a solution. Be aware that your mind cannot focus on two things at the same time... it can either focus on the current situation and worry or a solution. The choice is always yours.

James Kurtz said, "If we worry, we don't trust; if we trust, we don't worry. Worry does not empty tomorrow of its grief, but it does empty today of its joy."

If you have been worrying about something or someone, you can eliminate that worry through displacement. Let its positive opposite crowd it out of your mind and then follow through with constructive action. Everything in the universe has an opposite, even your worries.

You could be worried about not having sufficient time to do some of the important things you have to do today. The truth is you do have enough time if you are willing to give up something else. The busiest person you know, yourself included, would have time to go downtown and pick up a cheque if you won a lottery. You might neglect doing something else to make the time, but trust me, you would get the cheque.

When a worry thought occupies your attention, choose the positive opposite to the worry thought and focus your attention on that. No one is without problems; they are a part of living. But let me show you how much time we waste in worrying about the wrong problems. Here are some figures I picked up years ago and I would think they're just as valid today as they were when I first came upon them. Here is a reliable estimate of the things people worry about.

Things that never happen—40%; Things over and past that can’t be changed —30%;
Needless worries about our health—12%; Petty miscellaneous worries—10%;
Real, legitimate worries—8%.

In short, 92% of the average person's worries take up valuable time, cause painful stress—even mental anguish, and, for the most part, are unnecessary. Remember what Dr. Kurtz said, "Worry empties today of its joy." Don't worry, be happy!

Kingfisher Airlines :: Definitely recomended to fly the Good Times

Airport Parking Services

KingfisherI recently flew from Bangalore to Delhi and back on a Kingfisher Airlines flight.

Kingfisher is certainly trying to wow their passengers! The
entire flight experience shows evidence of attention to detail from the
moment you reach the airport to when you disembark.

The polite and plentiful ground staff who meet you outside the airport and usher you to check-in are a pleasant plus point. I was sure they had mistaken me for a business class flyer until I saw they showed the same concern for others traveling in economy.

A special mention for the Kingfisher pilots is warranted. They seem to have smooth takeoffs and smooth landings more often than not. The airline’s ILS certification focus is very welcome when planning trips to locations like Delhi which are prone to fog related delays. As I said before - I flew from Bangalore to Delhi(and back) on a wintery January late evening flight which took off on time and reached on time allaying my fears and escaping worst of the fog that was rolling in.

The comforable aircraft interiors and the video entertainment systems on board are every bit as good as the Kingfisher ads make them out to be.

The big question, ofcourse, is whether they can keep up the good points without increasing costs and improve the areas in which they lag.

OpenSource Tool to get all Windows Passwords?

Ophcrack is a tool that is able to quickly display Windows account passwords using Rainbow Tables instead of brute forcing the passwords. While it could take years to bruteforce a password that uses letters, numbers and special chars it takes only minutes to do so with Ophcrack.

Features

  • » Runs on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X (intel).
  • » Cracks LM and NTLM hashes.
  • » Free tables available for alphanumeric LM hashes.
  • » Loads hashes from local SAM, remote SAM.
  • » Loads hashes from encrypted SAM recovered from a Windows partition.

Ophcrack can be downloaded with several different table sets. The default live cd is able to reveal passwords with alphanumeric chars only. If no passwords are revealed using this method you should download different table sets which support other chars as well.

Two additional table sets can be downloaded from the Ophcrack website. The first is 720 megabytes and should only be used on machines with at least 500 megabytes of ram. A smaller one with only 388 megabytes can be downloaded for machines with less than that amount of ram.

A new version of Ophcrack was released just four days ago. (Ophcrack 1.1.4)

Page Bull :: A new Visual Search Engine for the web

Page BullBecause Google is the best search engine on the Internet, it is extremely difficult to release a new similar technology to attract an impressive number of users. In the past, I tried to present some of the latest innovations on the search engine market but it seems many of them are still anonymous technologies as most surfers prefer to use Google Search. Today, I'll present you another interesting search engine that promotes an innovative idea to help users find information on the Internet.

Pagebull is a visual search engine that is based on a simple idea: instead of numerous links provided as search engine results, the service returns thumbnails of the websites that match your query, helping you find a certain page easier. Every screenshot highlights the keywords entered by the users and can be configured to multiple sizes.

Pagebull's sophisticated search process gives you actual screenshots of the search results. Most search engines simply list the site. You have to click on them to find that the site is not quite what you wanted. With Pagebull, you can see the front page, allowing you to sort out the most helpful pages for you. And Pagebull helps you to avoid harmful content, so you can surf the Internet more securely.

Although the idea is quite interesting, the search engine is not so useful as Google's technology because it doesn't allow users to perform fast searches and find information quickly. In the FAQ published on the official page of the product, the developers sustain you must own a powerful Internet connection because the results might be loaded very slow so I guess it is not quite a well-developed solution.

National Geographic to offer International Cellphones

National GeographicThere is an unusual entrant into the mobile phone space: National Geographic. The organization launched what it calls the "Talk Abroad Travel Phone," which is designed for individuals circling the globe. But worldwide roaming doesn't come cheap at 90 cents per minute.

National Geographic joined up with Playa del Rey, Calif. company Cellular Abroad to provide the service that works across borders by picking up local cellular carriers in over 100 countries. The phone number will stay the same in all locations, and the handset utilizes GSM technology, which is prevalent throughout South America and Europe.

In addition, the Talk Abroad Travel Phone offers a dedicated toll-free number to reach Cellular Abroad's 24/7 customer support service.

"Students, vacationers, business travelers and our own explorers and photographers can now stay connected with this affordable travel phone and SIM card, while they seek to understand and experience our world," remarks the site.

However, such capability isn't new, and National Geographic may have a hard time breaking into a market where third-party providers that don't have their own networks have struggled to compete. All major United States wireless carriers offer international roaming, with GSM providers T-Mobile and Cingular already enabling users to take their phones with them.

Pricing for the Talk Abroad Travel Phone is $199 USD, which includes 30 minutes of outgoing talk time. A SIM-card only option is available for those with GSM phones that costs $79 USD and includes 30 minutes of talk time. Additional minutes can be purchased for 90 cents each. Prices from T-Mobile and Cingular vary by country, ranging from 20 cents to up to $3.

Incoming calls to the National Geographic phone or SIM card, however, will be free. In comparison, incoming calls when roaming with T-Mobile and Cingular are charged the country-specific international roaming rates and can end up being quite expensive. The National Geographic Talk Abroad Travel phone will be available starting next month at Cellular Abroad's Web site.

A small history :: St. Mary's Basilica was earlier called "Kaanike Mathe Devaalaya" (Our Lady of Presentation) and when the church took shape to the present structure in 1882, the Blessed Mother Mary, enshrined here was called "Arogya Mathe" (Mother of Health). Since then, the annual feast of St. Mary's Church is being celebrated every year on September 8.

How to perform a System Restore in Windows Vista

System Restore is a Windows Vista feature that deals with issues generated by installing faulty software or drivers. Via this feature, users will be able to restore Windows Vista to a previous state. Returning the operating system to the state before you installed the driver or software that caused functionality issues will scrape nothing from Vista, except the installation responsible for the problems.

In order to access the tool, all you have to do is to enter “restore” in the Search Box and System Restore will be at the top of the Start Menu. In case Windows Vista is still functional after you have installed the faulty drivers or software, this is the way to go. Alternatively, you can just type “rstrui”in the search box and press enter. Doing so will present you with a screen from which you will be able to roll Windows Vista back to the previous restore point.

If the problem is severe, you can reboot and press F8 in order to launch Vista in safe mode. Just enter “C:Windows\System32\strui.exe” without the inverted commas in the command prompt in order to execute System Restore.

Last, but not least, in some cases, you will have to take extreme measures. If Windows Vista refuses to reboot and crashes every time, insert the original Vista DVD and restart once again. Boot from the DVD, click next following the “Windows is loading files” process, but do not install Windows Vista. Instead look in the lower left corner of the screen and click on “Repair your computer.” Select the Vista operating system you want to restore, click next and then choose “System Restore.”

How to replace the Windows Clipboard? Ditto - An alternative

The Windows Clipboard is absolutely awful, it lacks so many features that I really do not know where to begin listing them. Ditto on the other hand is an open source replacement for the Windows clipboard that adds functionality to the clipboard function. Ditto makes it easy to save any type of information to the clipboard including the most usual data types such as text, images and code.

Previously saved information can be accessed by double-clicking, using a hotkey or dragging and drooping the entries or using the build in search functionality - either way they can be pasted into any windows that allows basic copy and paste operations. It furthermore makes it possible to sync clipboards over a network making it a very effective tool if you have to work on more than one computer on the same project.

Data that is send over a network will be encrypted to ensure that no one can use the information except the destination. Ditto uses the sqlite database to speed up operations.

Online free Mind-Mapping software - A review

Diagrams on paper are cool, but diagrams on the internet are cooler. This is where Bubbl.us comes into play. Bubbl.us is a mind-mapping product aimed towards literally anyone who needs help organizing their thoughts or any untidy information. Powered by Flash, Bubbl.us makes it easy for anyone to quickly start planning and sorting out their ideas through the use of linked text bubbles. Each bubble of information is connected to its preceding parent bubble and color coordinated accordingly for hierarchy sake. Using the mouse wheel or the side tool bar allows for easy zooming in and out of your mind-maps. Also added to the tool bar is workspace positioning and setup styles, however you will find that holding the left mouse button and dragging is a much more convenient way of moving around the work area.

You begin with a parent bubble. Pressing Tab creates another bubble in the same color and level of hierarchy as the bubble you tabbed from. Pressing Enter in a bubble will create a new level of hierarchy with a different colored bubble. Naturally, levels of the bubble tree are connected with lines and are movable around the workspace while remaining connected to each other. Each bubble also has an “Unpin” function. This resets all bubbles that you might have moved back under its appropriate parent. Bubbl.us also has an amusing deletion confirmation for each bubble you wish to omit. Once you press the X in the corner of a bubble a counter will begin counting down from three to zero as the line connecting the bubble to its parent acts as a lit fuse. Once it reaches zero the bubble will blow up in a cloud of fire. Neat.

Saving and loading is simple and fast. The navigation found on the right of the website is neatly made and holds all your current projects. Multiple brainstorming projects can be saved to folders in the side bar and loaded again at any time. Of course you’re also able to rename any of your projects using the side menu. Directly above the side menu is the link to edit your account information if necessary as well. A printing function has also been implemented so that your newly mapped out ideas can be printed out whenever you wish. They have included options for printing to the minimum height and width of your bubble tree, or simply a full screen print. Simply zoom out/in to what you feel is presentable, then print. There’s no hassle.

Frankly I loved Bubbl.us. It’s simple, it’s quick, it’s helpful. It’s not meant to be a complex, and it’s looking to be the most thorough mind-mapping application. It’s meant for prompt, on-the-spot organization, and in this respect it passes with flying colors.

Microsoft to Users: Beware of Time Warp

In case you didn’t see this – sort of a mini-Y2K (March 11 – Nov 4):

For three weeks this March and April, Microsoft warns that users of its calendar programs "should view any appointments [..] as suspect until they communicate with all meeting invitees." This potential problem lies in any software that was programmed before a 2005 U.S. law decreed that daylight-saving time would start three weeks earlier and end one week later, beginning this year.

How to do a clean install of Windows Vista on top of Windows XP

VistaDid you know that you don't have to scrap your old operating system just because you are doing a clean install of Windows Vista? Well, now you know. Let's just presume that you are attached to the old copy of Windows, and while you bought Windows Vista and are dying to perform a clean install you are also looking for a way to have access to your current files. Don't want to sort, manage and reorganize the content in the old operating system? No worries.

You can clean install Windows Vista on top of the previous operating system and still have everything available. This is possible via the Windows Vista Setup. The procedure is simple and painless. All you have to do is run the Vista setup while being logged on your current operating system. Choose to Install Now Windows Vista and simply keep clicking next at all the prompts that are presented to you.

After you will enter your product key, select Custom (advanced). “The partition you selected might contain files from a previous Windows installation. If it does, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will not be able to use your previous version of Windows,” is the message that Setup will display when you will choose to clean install Vista on top of your current operating system.

When the installation completes, you will be able to boot only into Vista. And when you are done with the Windows.com files you can delete the folder manually or use Disk Cleanup for the boot partition to get rid of the “leftovers”.

Watch out for Valentine's Day Flash eCards :: Trojans on the loose

Because today is Valentine's Day, many Internet companies are trying to release love-related products meant to attract users and to increase the traffic of their website. The well known search giant provider Google modified its logo and added a Valentine photo and also released love-related Desktop Gadgets meant to improve the appearance and functionality of the desktop. It's obvious that Valentine's Day represents an important event for all Internet companies because it can improve the number of their visitors as well as their earnings and popularity.

Valentine's Day is not only a love-related day but it also brings a lot of threats for our computer delivered as viruses, malware files or other types of infections. Although there are a lot of security applications that sustain they're able to block these threats, only some of them can detect some kind of infections. Today, it seems that Valentine related viruses can be installed by visiting some love eCards delivered via e-mail messages. The procedure is quite simple: you must click on a malicious link that requires you to install a fake version of Flash Player representing a Trojan file able to download private information.

“It disguises itself as a Valentine's eCard notification. When you click on the link in the e-mail, it will redirect you to a page that asks you to install a fake Macromedia Flash Player (Adobe Flash Player). This fake player is actually a trojan that downloads and installs a BZub variant onto the system. Both files are now detected as Valenavir.A and Bzub.HZ respectively using our latest database updates. So, please be cautious in opening those
Valentine's Day greeting cards,” the F-Secure security company team sustained in a blog post published on the official page of the company.

Vista messes up your Digital Photos :: Metadata Issue

Microsoft has warned Vista users that the operating system fails to manage photo metadata correctly. While Microsoft has worked to streamline the process of adding comments and information
to photographs, the results are less than successful. In fact, Windows Vista and the Microsoft Photo Info tool can destroy the metadata and even create problems with the image.

“When you edit the properties of a photo to add metadata to that photo in Windows Vista, the software for the digital camera may no longer recognize the metadata that is automatically added to the photo by the digital camera. This metadata is specific to the manufacturer of the camera,” informs Microsoft.

Currently, Microsoft has not released a definitive solution to this issue. However, Microsoft did reveal a temporary workaround. According to Microsoft, Vista users should steer clear of the Photo Acquisition Wizard. Users that want to keep the metadata added by the digital camera's software should not download their images onto the hard disc via the Photo Acquisition Wizard.

Additionally, Windows Vista users are advised against editing the properties of the images stored locally on their hard drives via Windows Photo Gallery or Windows Explorer.

Apple tells Music industry to keep Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology away

Apple Computer CEO, Steve Jobs, has opened a can of worms with his suggestion that record labels do away with their need for online music to be wrapped in Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology.

Meanwhile, record labels; Universal Music Group, EMI Music, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, and Warner Music Group, have always maintained, and continue to maintain that DRM is a critical requirement for keeping rampant piracy at bay.

Jobs has published an open letter, "Thoughts on Music" on the Apple Web site, wherein he talks about Apple's perspective on digital music distribution, and the role of DRM.

He writes, "Imagine a world where every online store sells DRM-free music encoded in open licensable formats. In such a world, any player can play music purchased from any store, and any store can sell music which is playable on all players. This is clearly the best alternative for consumers, and Apple would embrace it in a heartbeat."

Jobs goes on to say that with 90 percent of total yearly music sales comprising CDs that are essentially DRM-free, anyone in possession of a music CD can easily rip the content to MP3, WMA, AAC, or any other digital format, free of DRM restrictions.

As such, Jobs questions whether DRM is actually required at all, when digital distribution remains such a miniscule portion of total music sales.

In his letter, Jobs also discusses two other possibilities: one, of the industry continuing with its current DRM systems; the other, of Apple licensing its proprietary DRM technology, 'FairPlay' to competitors to achieve interoperability. However, he promptly rejects the second possibility, sounding-off concern over possible compromise of the 'FairPlay' system.

Of course, Jobs' suggestion is to be seen in the light of the recent fracas over DRM in Norway, where Apple has been literally given an ultimatum to either open-up its closed iTMS-iPod ecosystem, or cease operations within the country.

As such, the people of Norway are happy to see Jobs take on the responsibility that comes from being the head of a company that is considered a pioneer in the digital music space.

However, the murmur is getting louder that Jobs seems to be missing the wood for the trees in urging record labels to abandon DRM, when it is Apple themselves who should be leading by example.

Netscape Browser 9.0 to be released shortly

Although it hasn't seen a major update in well over a year, the Netscape browser is about to get a makeover, according to a teaser posted to the Netscape blog. Version 9.0 of the software, which AOL reincarnated in 2005, is due in the coming months.

A number of things are already known about Netscape 9. Most notably, the browser will have deep integration with the new Netscape.com user-driven news site that debuted last year and mirrored the functionality of Digg.

Also, developers say it will remain a standalone product built atop Mozilla's Firefox code base; it will not contain a mail client or Web page editor. Instead, the browser will integrate a number of different Firefox extensions that relate to Netscape.com, including a Friends' Activity Sidebar and Sitemail Notifier.

The new browser will now be cross-platform, compatible with Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Smaller features are getting focused on for 9.0, such as a redesign of Netscape's FTP view.

When it was first reborn, the Netscape Browser was intended to be a friendlier version of Firefox, adding more privacy features and phishing protections, as well as the option to render pages using Internet Explorer's Trident engine for compatibility. The software included a "Trust Rating" system that warned users of potentially dangerous Web sites.

Yet another simple way to install IE7 without Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) Checks

Most of you have read my earlier post to install IE7 without Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) Checks (How to install Internet Explorer 7(IE 7) without any WGA checks and How to avoid windows genuine advantage(WGA) checks - Insiders Guide ) but I just found another cool and easy way to do it. Here's the trick.

All you need to do is edit the hosts file that is in system32\drivers\etc of your windows installation and add the following line to it(in red>>): 127.0.0.1 mpa.one.microsoft.com
This redirects all request to mpa.one.microsoft.com back to your computer. This is the address that used to perform the WGA check.

Check your Documents And Settings/All Users/Application Data folder and delete the folder Windows Genuine Advantage if it exists. Once this is done start the installation of the Internet Explorer 7 and click on Verify during the installation. The connection to the Microsoft server will be redirected to your computer and the installation continues unhindered.

The same trick works for the installation of the Windows Media Player 11 too.

Motivation and Self-Development - A Few Tips

The ability to motivate action from within is one of the most important skill you will ever learn, here are some more ideas that will give you a great start to making this skill a part of your daily life.

The Ups and Downs
You will not always be motivated to succeed. We all have our ups and downs, and expecting anything different will create frustration and anger. We all get upset, encounter setbacks, and have bad days, but here's the secret: you can visit, but just don't live there.

Your Contribution
What are you going to contribute to the world after you have gone? Living an extraordinary life requires thinking beyond yourself and giving back to the world in some way. What will your gift to the world be?

Be Grateful for What You Have
Take time out of each day to be grateful for the things you have in your life. Simply being alive and well is an amazing gift - anything more is just icing on the cake. Appreciate what you have and you will discover a renewed passion to achieve the desires you have yet to experience.

Starting in the Right Direction
You may not realize it, but you've already taken a massive step toward success. Simply reading these words demonstrates your desire to enhance the quality of your life. Now that you've taken the first step, keep it going day after day, month after month, year after year.

Enjoy the Ride
While you're working your tail off to create a better life for you and your family it's important to enjoy the experience and not just focus on the outcome. It's like taking a road trip through beautiful country with your eyes closed thinking only about the destination. You'll miss out half the joy of success if you forget about the experience of it all.

How Long Will You Wait?
It's Decision Time. Get going!
