How to use Vista Upgrade DVD without having Windows XP for fresh install

Here's a very simple way in which you can use a Windows Vista UPGRADE DVD (which costs less) than the Fresh Installation DVD(which costs way too much). This method exploists one small loop hole in Windows Vista. Everyone can now use Vista Update DVDs to install Windows Vista without having the operating system at hand that has to be used to update.

You load the Vista DVD, choose not to enter a product key when it prompts for one and continue the installation by choosing the right Vista edition. This will install a 30 day trial version of Vista. Run the setup again, this time from the now fully working Vista.

Type in your product key and choose a custom (advanced) installation when asked. This simply means that Windows Vista will be installed again on your system, this time with the right product key. Delete the windows.old directory afterwards which contains the files from the first installation.

Free website templates

Today I was searching for some free website templates that implement table-less CSS and div's for creating a cool website.

I came across the follwoing websites that offer free website templates to download. I am planning to use a mix of designs from different templates that I have gathered to come out with a unique yet usable website design.

Whatever website design experiences I had gathered in creating one of my websites - www.sjason.8k.com and my past work at Bridgeline Software Inc will be very much put into excellent use now.

So here's the list of site's from where you can download some cool website templates. Most of these templates include the psd / css / images etc as part of the zip file.

Keyboard shortcuts for Apple iTunes 7

Touted as one of the best digital media players in the world, iTunes 7. A good summary of features can be found under itunes overview. A number of iTunes Hot Tips can be found on the Apple website. Following are some rather cool keyboard shortcuts (iTunes > Help > Keyboard Shortcuts):

  • Ctrl + M: Toggle the iTunes window between full and Mini Player views
  • Ctrl + Alt + F: Select the search field
  • Ctrl + U: Open a stream via a URL
  • Control-click the checkbox next to a song: Select or deselect all the songs in a list (add or remove all checkboxes)

How to remove DRM legally from the iTunes collection you own?

Many of you might have found out that the music you legally purchase from iTunes works only on your iPod and iTunes Player. The same m4p files cannot be played on your regular mp3 players!!! Hence, I have a very simple and completely legal solution for you. Read on.....

The absence of a official linux version of iTunes giving all linux users no legal way of obtaining and playing back protected songs. QT Fair Use is a smart application that removes DRM from songs bought by iTunes leaving the tag of the user who bought it in the file. This makes it useless to try and spread the file on the internet afterwards because it would be to easy to find out which user purchased the songs and got the ball rolling in first place.

QT Fair Use can process all songs that are currently in the iTunes library at once making it an ideal tool for users that have a lot of songs that they bought from iTunes. A great feature is that the program works on Windows, Macintosh and most Linux distributions making it a highly flexible solution for most users.

Beauty of mathematics

1 x 8 + 1 = 9
12 x 8 + 2 = 98
123 x 8 + 3 = 987
1234 x 8 + 4 = 9876
12345 x 8 + 5 = 98765
123456 x 8 + 6 = 987654
1234567 x 8 + 7 = 9876543
12345678 x 8 + 8 = 98765432
123456789 x 8 + 9 = 987654321

1 x 9 + 2 = 11
12 x 9 + 3 = 111
123 x 9 + 4 = 1111
1234 x 9 + 5 = 11111
12345 x 9 + 6 = 111111
123456 x 9 + 7 = 1111111
1234567 x 9 + 8 = 11111111
12345678 x 9 + 9 = 111111111
123456789 x 9 +10= 1111111111

9 x 9 + 7 = 88
98 x 9 + 6 = 888
987 x 9 + 5 = 8888
9876 x 9 + 4 = 88888
98765 x 9 + 3 = 888888
987654 x 9 + 2 = 8888888
9876543 x 9 + 1 = 88888888
98765432 x 9 + 0 = 888888888

Brilliant, isn't it?
And finally, take a look at this symmetry:

1 x 1 = 1
11 x 11 = 121
111 x 111 = 12321
1111 x 1111 = 1234321
11111 x 11111 = 123454321
111111 x 111111 = 12345654321
1111111 x 1111111 = 1234567654321
11111111 x 11111111 = 123456787654321
111111111 x 111111111=123456789 87654321

ThinkFree Office :: The best free Office Suite Online

You might not have heard about ThinkFree Office. Most people haven’t - that's the reason why I thought of sharing the secret with you all.

BTW, I am in NO way associated with this company NOR am I paid a penny for this post :)

ThinkFree allows you to create word processor, spreadsheet, and presentations very easily. The interface is really impressive. ThinkFree allows you to have 1GB of storage, which can be upped in various ways. This allows you to store your docs from anywhere. You can create folders and organize your documents very easily and nicely.

The user interface is very impressive. It is java based and pretty much looks like what you would expect from a desktop application, except the crashing window. You can almost anything that you could do with your regular office documents. My best suggestion is for you to sign up and check it out.

One of the best parts about ThinkFree is the collaboration and sharing components.

  • You can invite others to view or edit your documents.

  • You can set up collaborative folders for a team to work on together.

  • And you can also look at revisions. This is a great versioning system.

  • You can see who edited the document, when they edited it, and what they actually edited. Very cool indeed.

  • And you can also comment on any version. This is going to be a very helpful tool for people.

  • You can also share documents with the world and incorporate different creative commons licenses.

Now check it out and let me know your thoughts on this.

Simple way to find the source of a SPAM mail using gmail

There's a simple way to find out which site leaked/traded your e-mail credentials to a Spammer. To find out who did it, all you need is a gmail account.

If your Gmail login name was myname@gmail.com and you went to www.testsite.com to fill out a registration form, instead of just entering myname@gmail.com as your email, enter it as myname+testsite.com@gmail.com[Let the '+' be in between] instead. When Gmail sees a “+” in an email address, it uses all the characters to the left of the plus sign to know who to send it to. In this example it would still send it to myname@gmail.com.

Now what will help you is if you search Gmail for myname+testsite.com, you will see all messages[read as Spam] that were sent to that email address.

To see who is responsible for sending a specific message click the Show Details link and you will see the complete address. Now you've zeroed in on who sold your e-mail credentials to a Spammer.

The various types of Signatures you come across & the attitude of a person
are listed below:
<Very interesting read>

These persons are very confident and are good personalities. They are a
little bit selfish but believe in "Happiness of human life"

These persons are considered to be Romantic, can easily change their
fiancées as if they change their clothes. They prefer beauty in other
persons & they themselves try to look beautiful. They easily attract

These persons are more inclined towards classical arts, simple & are very
cool. If you loose faith with them, then these persons will never look back
at you. Hence its always better to be careful with these people.

These persons enjoy their life in their own way, never pay attention to
others views. These are considered to be good natured but are selfish too.

These persons try to be very smart, hide each & every matter, never say
anything in straight forward manner, never pay attention to the other
person of what he is talking of.

These persons are considered to be intelligent but never think. These
people change their ideas & views as fast as the wind changes its direction
of flow. They never think whether that particular thing is right or wrong.
You can win them just by flattering them.

These persons are very kind to us, have a good heart, selfless, are ready
to sacrifice their life for the sake of their near & dear. But these seem
to think a lot and may get angry very soon.

These persons are very kind hearted, can adjust themselves to any
environment & to the person they are talking. These persons are very firm on
their views & posses a lot of will power.

How to Nudge Objects Slightly in Powerpoint

Are you frustrated when you try to move an object on a slide just a little bit? Objects on a slide snap to a grid, but maybe you find it difficult to move them the small amount needed. Here are some techniques:

  1. Choose Draw > Nudge on the Drawing toolbar, then choose Up, Down, Left or Right to move the selected object one grid unit
  2. Press Ctrl with one of the arrow keys to move the selected object in increments of .02 inches
  3. Press Alt while you drag an object to disable the grid completely and allow total control

You can also make the grid visible and control its spacing. Choose Draw > Grid and Guides and then change the settings in the Grid and Guides dialog box. Click OK when you are finished.

Tips for Making Great Handouts in Powerpoint

You can make handouts in PowerPoint by formatting the Handout Master.

  1. Choose View > Master > Handout Master
  2. To print them, choose File > Print and choose Handouts in the Print What drop-down list
  3. Change the settings in the Handouts section of the Print dialog box and click OK

But, these handouts are basically just a copy of your presentation. You have more flexibility by sending the presentation to Microsoft Word.
  1. Choose File > Send To > Microsoft Word
  2. In the Send To Microsoft Word dialog box, choose one of the options and click OK. You even have the option to create a link (choose Paste Link) so that the Word document is updated if you change your presentation

How to create a Slide List in Microsoft Powerpoint

A printed list of slides(also known as Slide List in Microsoft Powerpoint jargon) is very helpful when you present. You can use the list to move quickly to a specific slide (in Slide Show view, just type the number of the slide and press Enter).

To create a slide list, follow these steps:

  1. Display the Outlining toolbar (choose View > Toolbars > Outlining)
  2. In Normal view, click the Collapse All button on the Outlining toolbar. All you should see in the Outline pane are the slide numbers and titles
  3. Choose File > Print to open the Print dialog box
  4. From the Print What drop-down list, choose Outline View. Click OK

How to easily change the default Windows File Icons?

The freeware IconX makes it possible to change any icon that you can get your hands on in Windows. It takes care of file type and specific files, folders and even drives. The installation is pretty simple. Download the IconX software and right-click IconX.inf and select install to install the shell extension. Please note that you need to write the author to receive a validation code because the software was shareware and is now freeware.

After all of this is done right-click a file, folder or drive and select Change Icon from the context menu. A window pops up showing the path to the file, folder or drive. You will have to choose a icon library, some of which can be loaded from the developers page, and all the icons of that library will be displayed.

Just click on the icon that you want to use and use the optional “Use icon for all files of that type” if you wish that as well. Changes will be visible immediately and you can repeat the process if you don’t like the icon anymore.

Ten Steps To Achieving Your Goals In 2007

1. Make the commitment to reach your goal. "One person with a commitment is worth a hundred who only have an interest." Mary Crowley.
2. Commit yourself to detailed accountability. Record your progress toward your goals every night, and list the six most important things you need to do the next day. Daily discipline is the key to reaching your goals.
3. Build your life on a sold foundation of honesty, character, integrity and trust. This foundation will give you an honest shot at reaching any goal you have set properly.
4. Break your intermediate and long-range goals into incremental goals and targets.
5. Be prepared to change. You can't control the weather, inflation, interest rates, the stock market etc. Change your decision to move toward a goal carefully--but be willing to change your direction to get there as conditions and circumstances demand.
6. Share your "give-up" goals (i.e., give up smoking, being rude, being late, procrastinating, eating too much, etc.) with many people. Chances are  really excellent they're going to encourage you.
7. Become a team player. Remember: You can have everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.
8. See the reaching. In your imagination see yourself receiving that diploma, getting that job or promotion, making that speech, moving into the home of your dreams, achieving that weight-loss goal, etc.
9. Each time you reach a goal your confidence will grow so that you can do bigger and better things. After accomplishing any goal, record it in your own journal, Weekly Planner or Palm Pilot.
10. Remember, what you get by reaching your destination isn't nearly as important as what you become by reaching your goals--what you will become is the winner you were born to be!
