BPL Mobile one of the premier Mobile service provider in most parts of India, has announced 'India Lifetime 444 MOTS Recharge' – a lifetime prepaid plan at Rs. 444 (approx. $11).These rates are the lowest in country and this offer will also enable all lifetime prepaid users the benefit of making calls across India to any landline or cellular service for Rs. 1.99 per minute.
The nearest competetior seems to be my service provider - Hutch. Hutch's cheapest Lifetime prepaid offer stands at Rs. 449(approx. $11.50).
Incidentally, BPL Mobile was the first cellular service provider in India to slash lifetime rates to Rs. 666. Having started its services in 1995, BPL Mobile currently operates in Mumbai, and has a customer base of over 1 million.
I guess a second round of mobile pricing wars is set to begin in India soon - the first being when the Lifetime Pre-paids were started. But lets hope that the service too becomes better and we don't have the nagging "Network Busy" screens often.
