Microsoft Silverlight is, the solution that will power the next generation of media experiences on the web and also a direct competitor to the ubiquitous Adobe Flash technology. Microsoft's next-generation, cross-platform, cross-browser web client runtime, Silverlight, previously codenamed WPF/E – Windows Presentation Foundation Everywhere, also affectionately dubbed the Adobe Flash killer, was unveiled to the world at the beginning of this week. In a manner similar to Flash, Silverlight is designed to enable developers to build rich media experiences on the web.Essentially, Silverlight is nothing more than a lightweight subset of XAML designed for integrating online rich media experiences. In this regard, Microsoft has not focused only on Windows, but also on Macintosh. According to Microsoft, Silverlight delivers support for both Mac and Windows browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari.
Silverlight is designed to enable developers to build rich media experiences on the web. Microsoft also announced that it will begin shipping a key new media utility designed to generate rich media content for Silverlight.
