Scribd :: Easy way to upload and share your documents online

A kind of YouTube for e-books, Scribd lets you view documents online and share your own documents with the world.

The site makes getting content very easy, and like a fast food hamburger, you can get it the way you want. It lets you upload a Word document and download it as html or PDF or text. You can even use a text-to-speech tool to create an audio file, so you can download it to an iPod.

Besides the “sharing” feature of YouTube, Scribd has also borrowed the social networking angle of Digg.com. Visitors can vote for their favorite items, and they move up the list of popular documents.

This thing is seriously cool, a great way to find and share information. I'm concerned that copyright violations could cause it trouble (witness YouTube), but I suspect Scribd will be with us for a long time to come.

Hard to believe, but a Web site that makes copyright infringement easy has received $300,000 in venture backing and hired the same law firm used by YouTube.

The site says, "Scribd is for noncommercial sharing of personal documents only," But in the three weeks it's been live, Scribed has received about two dozen "take down notices" related to copyrighted material that's been uploaded. For instance, it's simple to find a PDF of Thomas Friedman's best seller. There's more coming, for sure.

No wonder these guys have retained the Wilson, Sonsini law firm. If Scribd catches on, there's work there for decades.

Simple steps to reset your iPod

Simple steps to reset or restart iPod following a freeze.

If your iPod is frozen or won't turn on, it may be because iPod is paused or the Hold switch is in the locked position. If so, a lock symbol appears on the screen. Slide the Hold switch to the unlocked position and check the screen.

If your iPod is frozen or won't turn on, the steps to reset it vary by model.

To reset an iPod with a Click Wheel, including:

  • Fifth Generation iPod (also known as iPod with video)
  • iPod nano (Second Generation)
  • iPod nano
  • iPod with color display (iPod photo)
  • iPod (Click Wheel)
  • iPod mini
  • iPod mini (Second Generation)

  1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
  2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center. If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.

To reset iPod, iPod (scroll wheel), iPod (touch wheel), and iPod (dock connector)

  1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
  2. Press and hold the Play/Pause and Menu buttons simultaneously until the Apple/iPod logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.

If you are still unable to reset your iPod, use only one finger from one hand to press the Center (Select) button, and one finger from the other hand to press the Menu button.

When you reset iPod all your music and files are saved, but some customized settings may be lost. Date and time is preserved (unless the iPod reset itself because it had no power and then was reconnected to power). Other customized settings, such as Bookmarks, On-The-Go Playlists, Shuffle, Backlight timer, and so forth are preserved from the last time the hard drive turned on.

Simple Tips to shoot great snaps with your Digital Camera

Do you wish you were a better photographer? All it takes is a little know-how and experience. Keep reading for some important picture-taking tips. Then grab your camera and start shooting your way to great pictures.

  • Look your subject in the eye
Direct eye contact can be as engaging in a picture as it is in real life. When taking a picture of someone, hold the camera at the person's eye level to unleash the power of those magnetic gazes and mesmerizing smiles. For children, that means stooping to their level. And your subject need not always stare at the camera. All by itself that eye level angle will create a personal and inviting feeling that pulls you into the picture.
  • Use a plain background
A plain background shows off the subject you are photographing. When you look through the camera viewfinder, force yourself to study the area surrounding your subject. Make sure no poles grow from the head of your favorite niece and that no cars seem to dangle from her ears.
  • Use flash outdoors
Bright sun can create unattractive deep facial shadows. Eliminate the shadows by using your flash to lighten the face. When taking people pictures on sunny days, turn your flash on. You may have a choice of fill-flash mode or full-flash mode. If the person is within five feet, use the fill-flash mode; beyond five feet, the full-power mode may be required. With a digital camera, use the picture display panel to review the results.
On cloudy days, use the camera's fill-flash mode if it has one. The flash will brighten up people's faces and make them stand out. Also take a picture without the flash, because the soft light of overcast days sometimes gives quite pleasing results by itself.
  • Move in close
If your subject is smaller than a car, take a step or two closer before taking the picture and zoom in on your subject. Your goal is to fill the picture area with the subject you are photographing. Up close you can reveal telling details, like a sprinkle of freckles or an arched eyebrow.
But don't get too close or your pictures will be blurry. The closest focusing distance for most cameras is about three feet, or about one step away from your camera. If you get closer than the closest focusing distance of your camera (see your manual to be sure), your pictures will be blurry.
  • Move it from the middle
Center-stage is a great place for a performer to be. However, the middle of your picture is not the best place for your subject. Bring your picture to life by simply moving your subject away from the middle of your picture. Start by playing tick-tack-toe with subject position. Imagine a tick-tack-toe grid in your viewfinder. Now place your important subject at one of the intersections of lines.
You'll need to lock the focus if you have an auto-focus camera because most of them focus on whatever is in the center of the viewfinder.
  • Lock the focus
If your subject is not in the center of the picture, you need to lock the focus to create a sharp picture. Most auto-focus cameras focus on whatever is in the center of the picture. But to improve pictures, you will often want to move the subject away from the center of the picture. If you don't want a blurred picture, you'll need to first lock the focus with the subject in the middle and then recompose the picture so the subject is away from the middle.
Usually you can lock the focus in three steps. First, center the subject and press and hold the shutter button halfway down. Second, reposition your camera (while still holding the shutter button) so the subject is away from the center. And third, finish by pressing the shutter button all the way down to take the picture.
  • Know your flash's range
The number one flash mistake is taking pictures beyond the flash's range. Why is this a mistake? Because pictures taken beyond the maximum flash range will be too dark. For many cameras, the maximum flash range is less than fifteen feet—about five steps away.
What is your camera's flash range? Look it up in your camera manual. Can't find it? Then don't take a chance. Position yourself so subjects are no farther than ten feet away.
  • Watch the light
Next to the subject, the most important part of every picture is the light. It affects the appearance of everything you photograph. On a great-grandmother, bright sunlight from the side can enhance wrinkles. But the soft light of a cloudy day can subdue those same wrinkles.
Don't like the light on your subject? Then move yourself or your subject. For landscapes, try to take pictures early or late in the day when the light is orangish and rakes across the land.
  • Take some vertical pictures
Is your camera vertically challenged? It is if you never turn it sideways to take a vertical picture. All sorts of things look better in a vertical picture. From a lighthouse near a cliff to the Eiffel Tower to your four-year-old niece jumping in a puddle. So next time out, make a conscious effort to turn your camera sideways and take some vertical pictures.
  • Be a picture director
Take control of your picture-taking and watch your pictures dramatically improve. Become a picture director, not just a passive picture-taker. A picture director takes charge. A picture director picks the location: "Everybody go outside to the backyard." A picture director adds props: "Girls, put on your pink sunglasses." A picture director arranges people: "Now move in close, and lean toward the camera.

Most pictures won't be that involved, but you get the idea: Take charge of your pictures!!

How to run Vista on your Mac easily? Install Boot Camp

Today Boot Camp 1.2 Beta With Windows Vista Support was released by Apple. So this makes it just so easy for you to run Windows Vista in your sweet MAC. The latest version of its popular dual-boot solution, Boot Camp, has a number of significant improvements including the much talked about Vista support.
The updates are as follows:
• Support for Windows Vista (32-bit)
• Updated drivers, including but not limited to trackpad, AppleTime (synch), audio, graphics, modem, iSight camera
• Support the Apple Remote (works with iTunes and Windows Media Player)
• A Windows system tray icon for easy access to Boot Camp information and actions
• Improved keyboard support for Korean, Chinese, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Russian, and French Canadian
• Improved Windows driver installation experience
• Updated documentation and Boot Camp on-line help in Windows
• Apple Software Update (for Windows XP and Vista)

Not only does this update improve compatibility, but Apple seems to have taken some effort to improve the experience of people running Vista on Macs. From the Remote working with Windows Media Player, to the new system tray that makes interaction with Boot Camp easier, Apple is making sure that the Boot Camp Experience is pleasant and up to the Apple standards on both sides of the boot.

While being great news for Boot Camp users, this update should also put the rumor that Leopard is being delayed to rest. Why anyone imagined that Apple would delay the release of their operating system due to lack of support of a third party OS is unclear. Pre-release version of Vista have been running under Boot Camp for a long time, and it was obvious that Apple would sort out all the issues before Boot Camp goes out of beta.

How to easily find the correct drivers for your devices in Windows Vista?

Many of you might have had problems getting the right set of drivers for Windows vista. Windows Vista has problems in having drivers for many devices that Microsoft deems as less used. we now have a problem wherein one of our beloved device's will not be recognized correctly under Windows Vista reducing its functionality or that the device doesn't work for good with Vista. We have an in-build option to search for drivers, but that option was bad in Windows XP and is worse in Windows Vista. Searching for Windows Vista but this takes lots of time and knowledge.

Here's a very simple way to find the right set of driver's for Vista - just visit the Vista Drivers website that lists a whole host of drivers for all sorts of devices and brands. The main page lists many of the most known hardware manufacturers such as ATI, Creative, Dell, Intel, Nvidia and Logitech with the latest addition for their devices. You can access all drivers from those popular manufacturers fast by clicking on the more link. This displays drivers for all of their devices that are currently listed on the Vista drivers pages.

The other method would be to list all drivers that are currently in the database which is a huge list of drivers separated into different pages. All links lead directly to the download page for that driver which eliminates the process of finding a driver on a homepage.

Hope this makes your life simpler and enjoyable with your new Windows Vista!!

Google's Blogger too many fake blogs - a big concern

Blogger(the free Blog service from the Google Stable) is surely the most popular blog service on the Internet because it is powered by the search giant and provides numerous powerful features. It seems like Blogger is no longer a safe place because it is now the target of several spam attempts launched by hackers from every corner of the world.

Security company Fortinet sustained there is an impressive number of attacks already confirmed, so Google should really investigate the issue and take action to block them. Although the users are 100 percent vulnerable to these blogs because they are unable to make the difference between a clean and an infected blog, they can use the report function to help Google protect other visitors of the page.

The main malicious use of the blog service is the creation of fake blogs meant to attract users and spread malware or other types of infections.

In the past, there was another security attack concerning the blogs and especially Google’s blog service. Blogger was attacked with an impressive number of spam messages, also known as splogs that were posted as comments for a certain article. The search giant managed to fix the vulnerability by introducing captchas, the security images that require users to enter the displayed code.

Before you Code something new - Search for it.

How many times have you coded something from scratch only to find in the end that such a code/functionality already existed and you would have only needed to make use of it.

Well, Google Code Search is a code search engine which crawls and indexes publicly hosted archives (.tar.gz, .tar.bz2, .tar, and .zip) and CVS and Subversion repositories. It’s very light weight and accurate supporting the usage of regular expressions and advanced operators for quick filtering.

I like to use Google Code Search for because it’s fast and simple.

India to develop Air-Powered car

Tata Motors is at it once again: after revelling the masses with its promise of launching the Rs 1 lakh car, the company is now in the process of developing a car which runs on compressed air, making it virtually pollution free.

According to an IT news portal, the company has signed a deal with French company MDI, run by a former Formula One engineer, and has spent the past 10 years developing the engine of the car.

MDI has for many years been engaged in developing environment-friendly engines. Accordingly, the MDI Air Car can be powered by an external compressed air pump or by an internal compressor running on petrol.

MDI is said to be very happy to conclude the agreement with Tata Motors, the association with the experienced Indian industrial group would help in developing a new and cost-saving technology that meets with severe regulations for environmental protection, for the Indian market.

It is speculated that the final car should cost around Rs 3,40,900 ($7840) and would have a range of around 300 km between refueling. The cost of a refill would be an almost negligible at Rs 130 ($2.9).

It would have a top speed of around 60 km per hour using air alone, and 200 km per hour using an air and fuel combination engine.

The car though made of foam and fibreglass has survived official crash tests. The 90 cubic meters of compressed air is stored at 300 bars in fiber fuel tanks built by Airbus. The tanks are crash resistant and vent quickly and safely in the event of a collision.

Gliffy - A free Online service to Create and share diagrams

Gliffy is a web application that allows you to create diagrams and layouts online, share them with your friends/team mates and also publish them on the web. Gliffy is developed in Flash.

Things that you can create with Gliffy:

  • Flow charts
  • Room plans
  • Database schemas
  • Workflow documents
  • Class Diagrams
  • Website layouts/wireframes
  • Network Diagrams

You can export the diagrams in SVG, JPEG and PNG formats, so it's easy to publish them on a web page or to import them in a more powerful tool like Microsoft Visio. Gliffy keeps track of all the revisions of a diagram, so it's easy to revert to earlier versions.

You won't find too many templates like in Microsoft Visio, you can't incorporate too much data in the diagrams, there aren't UML diagrams, but Gliffy is a useful tool for those who don't need all these features. Besides, unlike Microsoft Visio, Gliffy is free and available in any PC that can access the internet.

Superfast Yahoo Widgets Engine 4.0 Released

Yahoo Widgets Engine is an interesting application developed by Yahoo that helps Windows and Mac OSX owners place widgets on their desktops. The widgets represent tiny tools with an attractive interface able to add a simple function or to display only one type of information (CPU info, weather, calendar), being based on the main platform designed by the company. Because they are able to make the desktop more attractive, numerous users are already using Yahoo Widgets, the application that was previously named Konfabulator.

Some time ago, the giant portal announced its teams are now working on the 4.0 version that is meant to be more powerful and efficient than ever. This morning, Yahoo finally released the product, making it available as a free download.

Yahoo Widgets 4 is compatible with both Mac and Windows and contains several important improvements added by the company: increased speed for the functionality of the downloadable application, a mini widget sidebar able to include all the gadgets currently available, allowing you to preview the tiny tools, numerous widgets developed by the company and a lot of tiny improvements to make the product work better.

As far I can see, Yahoo Widgets 4 works quite fast because it requires a very low amount of memory on both Windows and Mac. Although I started 10 widgets, the computer was still working very fast so I guess the improvements are quite efficient. The company also improved the appearance of the page, changing the design according to the new features implemented in the 4.0 version of the application.

If you want to download Yahoo Widgets 4.0 and give it a try. Click here.

Get ready for 5days of Indian Bank strike Ahead!!

Hey readers from India, as per newspaper reports banking transactions are likely to be affected in the period 26th March to 31st March(5 days) due to 3 days strike of bank employees and two days general holidays. Even ATM operations could get halted as cash filling after heavy withdrawals may not be feasible since private banks rely on SBI /RBI etc for bulk cash dealing support. This is to suggest to all that you draw your cash needs before 25th with the assumption that cash can not be drawn in the period as stated above. It is a safe course to adopt.

Most small businesses and cautious individuals in India have started transferring money to private sector and foreign banks in the wake of a strike call given by public sector bank unions for next week. Private banks have already sent letters to corporate customers having payroll accounts with them, to transfer money to these accounts to avoid a cash crunch during the last week of the financial year.

Customers would face major problems as the next clearing operation after March 23 would, in all likelihood, only be on April 2. If talks do not fructify, bank trade unions have threatened an indefinite strike from May 3.

Bank unions have called for a strike next week for three days (March 28, 29 and 30). However, the preceding and succeeding days — March 27 and 31 — are bank holidays due to festivals. Also many of the union employees are also planning to take a causal leave on March 26. Employees of old private sector banks would also participate in the strike.

With the strike coming at the end of the financial year, all organisations, big and small, would have a tough time, making payments before the year end to complete financial transactions.

Three leading private banks — ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and UTI Bank — are the biggest players in the payroll accounts, together having around 1.25 crore payroll accounts.

The salaried class, along with the dealer-supplier chain, will be among the worst-hit. Many corporates make payments to suppliers at the end of the month while many suppliers are located in the interiors of the country. Since private banks do not have a massive branch network in these areas, they maintain accounts with PSU banks.

These accounts would also include payroll accounts of state and central government entities. In most cases, the main accounts of the public sector units are with PSBs. Banks have already asked these entities to transfer money to the payroll accounts so as to avoid last-minute hiccups. Corporates are likely to start taking action of transferring money and making statutory payments other than all other payments. This would help the corporates also make cash payments.

How to Install / Activate Single Copy of Windows Vista on many PCs

Did you know that Windows Vista can legally be installed using a single copy on multiple PCs? Well, microsoft will permit users who have acquired a full or upgrade version of Windows Vista to install the same copy of the operating system on multiple machines. The only catch here is that -- provided that they own all the additional computers. Sounds just too good to be true. Doesn't it? Well, no.... now comes the real picture.

According to the current version of the EULA, customers that have acquired a full or an upgrade license of Windows Vista are permitted to install the operating system on a single PC. Users can transfer Windows Vista to another machine only if they first completely remove the operating system from the PC it was initially installed on. The new Microsoft initiative will enable users to install and activate the same copy of Windows Vista across multiple computers.

Windows Vista requires 1 license per device. When attempting to install and activate the same licensed copy of Windows Vista on another PC, activation won't work. When the activation fails, the user is directed to purchase additional licenses online or by phone. Remember, not properly activating Windows Vista will lead to it running in reduced functionality mode.

The only catch is that Vista customers will have to pay for each of the additional installations of the operating system. Via the Windows Vista Additional License program, Microsoft will allow existing Windows Vista customers to purchase up to 5 additional licenses for just as many PCs. With the five additional licenses, customers will be enabled to deploy a single edition on all other computers they may own. Furthermore, Microsoft will sell these five licenses at a discount price that will be as much as 10% lower compared to the retail price.

Running Spotplex Full Blast on my Blog

Today I had finally got an invite to join the Spotplex Network. I have added their code into my blog and now what's so cool is that each article that is read by you results in a count on the Spotplex Page.

Checkout my page on Spotplex(http://www.spotplex.com/code.php?code=47882) you'll understand what I mean't.

There has been large scale debates online - if Spotplex would become the next Digg Killer app in making. I personally feel it may really be a new collaborative technology in making rather than a replacement for any other service.

Also, Spotplex maynot work that well with some small time websites which have a few hundred page view's everyday. Since most of their articles will never see light of day on Spotplex's main page.

Check out the cool widget below that I have got from Spotplex, it lists down the most viewed pages from this Blog. Do let me know your comments on this.

Also, do tell me if it would be a nice idea to replace my current "Top 10 Content of My Blog" on the right navigation bar to this cool widget from Spotplex.

Springloops :: An online source code management tool

Springloops is an online(free/paid) source code management tool for web development teams which require rapid collaboration.

There seem to have risen a solution hosting for SubVersion (examples show the optimal TortoiseSVN in action!) planned particularly for the web. When you begin to use it, you realize it is beyond that with a SVN client. It is has an elegant web interface and manages deployment to multiple web servers (via ftp) and also integration with Basecamp in order to manage the progress of the plan.

At the moment, at least during the phase Beta, all the services are free.

I still do not know if Springloops is truly a good system, but want to point out that I like the elegant, simple and it is very planned : simple diagram but cool, none of the annoying animations or flashes and a good layout, much leggibile.

Team members can easily commit changes, view logs, back-up to previous versions of code, and easily deploy changes to your servers.

New Fonts in Windows Vista

The new Windows Vista is shipped with a new font family optimized for the operating system by Microsoft. All of you who are running Windows Vista might have already noticed that
the fonts available are different from those you have been used Windows XP. This is because with Vista, Microsoft has delivered the Microsoft ClearType Font Collection.

A total of six different fonts have been scheduled to ship with Windows Vista and the 2007 Microsoft Office System. The new fonts Constantia, Corbel, Calibri, Cambria, Candara and Consolas have indeed been integrated in Windows Vista and are the default fonts that ship with the operating system.

One relevant aspect of this Microsoft initiative is the fact that the ClearType Font Collection has been optimized to work in conjunction with the ClearType technology for rendering computer fonts.

However, one of the initial fonts to be included with Windows Vista is missing. Cariadings is nowhere to be found, although it is a registered Microsoft trademark for fonts as approved by the US Trademarks Office since 2004. Cariadings was created by Geraldine G. Wade as an ornamental design for a type font and was destined to replace Wingdings.

Let's hope for the Best!!

OpenCode :: Write / Compile / Run Java Code Online

Yes you heard me write - Write / Compile / Run Java Code Online for free.

OpenCode is a service for all you Java/Processing buffs out there. Developed by students at MIT Media Labs, OpenCode is a web-based programming tool which lets you compile and run Java applets online using Processing libraries. The site allows you to browse through works by other users, create your own applets, manage resources, and meet other programmers. I used to develop applets with Processing a few years back, experimenting with mathematical art, and it’s great to see such a development.

How to enable DreamScene Video Wallpapers in ALL Windows Vista Versions

DreamScene is a feature that enables users of Windows Vista Ultimate editions to set up animated backgrounds instead of the mundane static wallpapers. But Microsoft has limited the availability of this feature only to the Ultimate edition of Vista. While a workaround for enabling the actual DreamScene feature in the other version of Vista is not yet available, users can employ an alternative with similar results.

The fact of the matter is that this method will not get DreamScene working on your machine, but the effect will be similar to that delivered by the original. It may require some amount of effort on your behalf, but go along with me on this one. It will be worth it.

First off, you will need the latest edition of VLC Player[Freeware]. After downloading and installing VLC Player make your way to Settings > Preferences > Video > Output Modules > Direct X. In order to see all the settings available, you will have to check the Advanced options box in the bottom right corner. Enable Wallpaper Mode is such an advanced option; it is disabled by default, but you can just enable it by checking the box next to it.

Now it's time to simulate the behavior of DreamScene. In this sense, navigate to Settings > Preferences > Interface > Main Interfaces > wxWidgets and simply uncheck the box next to the Taskbar option. This will remove VLC Player from the Windows Taskbar while the application is running, and it will be running extensively. And if you select Settings > Preferences you will also be able to loop a single video fragment. Enjoy!

Updated Version of iTunes available for download - iTunes 7.1.1

iTunes is surely the most popular audio player for the Mac platforms because it is released by Apple and contains a lot of powerful functions to allow you to organize your audio collection. Besides its audio play functions, iTunes allows you to burn CDs and create libraries with your favorite music. The latest versions of the application provide quick access to the iTunes Music Store, a special Apple product able to distribute new and popular songs through a simple interface.

Because it is the main audio player for numerous Mac systems as well as for a lot of Windows computers, Apple improves the program periodically to resolve the issues reported to the company. Yesterday, Apple released an improved version of the application to correct some minor compatibility problems in the 7.1 version. iTunes 7.1.1 is also more stable because numerous users sustained the application crashed just after the execution of the program.

If you want to update to the latest version of the application, you can download it directly from Apple’s website. The easiest way to download the update of the application is to open your version of iTunes and click on the Check for Updates function. The application will automatically search for the updated version and will ask you to accept the installation of the new edition. iTunes 7.1.1 has 27.5 MB and is installed automatically through the Software Update interface. Although there are no obvious updates, it is recommended to update to this latest version of the program to avoid potential crashes or vulnerability issues.

Both versions for Windows and Mac were updated so, no matter your platform, you should download the improved application.

How to dual boot Windows Vista and Linux Ubuntu?

Many a times, Windows users that want to give Ubuntu Linux a try and don't want to give up their Windows system. So in such cases they can always choose to have them both in the same machine.
And this also applies for people that need both Windows and Linux on the same PC for business purposes. A dual boot machine has either multiple hard disks or multiple hard disk partitions, with each partition or drive containing an operating system. Now there are different methods to achieve a correct dual boot system, it's your decision which one you want to give it a try. I will outline two methods to achieve this.

Method 1: The easiest method

You can choose the brand new Ubuntu/Debian Installer for Windows machines. The aim of this installer is to provide an easier way for a Windows user to install Ubuntu Linux without having to know how to repartition the disks or to set up a multiboot system.

Note: With this installer, you can also choose to install Kubuntu (Ubuntu with KDE desktop) or Xubuntu (Ubuntu with XFCE desktop).

Method 2: The Geek way

1. Make sure your Windows partition is defragmented and backup any important data.

2. Boot from the Ubuntu Desktop CD, double click on the Install icon on the desktop and follow the normal installation instructions. When you arrive at the Partitioning screen, select the option that let's you resize IDE1 master, partition #1 (hda1) and use the free space.

Note: Remember that IDE1 master, partition #1 (hda1) represents the First partition on the First hard drive.

The partitioner will ask you how much space you wish to distribute to Linux partition, just enter the desired amount of space (I recommend around 5-6 GB). Continue with the installation.

3. After the installation is over, reboot the machine and you will be able to select from Windows or Ubuntu at boot time.
